Operation Christmas Child is a ministry by Samaritan’s Purse International Relief Organization that collects shoeboxes and distributes them to children in need all over the world! Anyone can get an empty box and fill it with items such as toys and school supplies to be delivered to these children! The employees at our Castroville Branch decided to join in the fun and they each packed a box or two to donate! Security State Bank Employees from the Main Pearsall Office, donated new and gently used school uniforms to the students at Pearsall ISD! This is an annual event that SSB does to ensure that each student will have the clothes they need for the new school year. On August 13th, Mary Mangold, Vice President, attended the New Teacher Luncheon for Medina Valley and St. Louis Catholic Schools in Castroville. SSB sponsored several of the teacher lunches and provided “Welcome Bags” to give away to the teachers! Mary is pictured here with Corri Garza, of the Castroville Area Chamber of Commerce that organizes this wonderful event.
SSB also sponsored and donated items for the new teacher events in Pearsall, Devine, Natalia, and Hondo! We hope all of the staff and students at each school district have a wonderful school year!
Both Pearsall Security State Bank locations along with many generous SSB customers, donated to this years “Stuff The Bus” program, which provides, backpacks, school supplies and other items to help prepare low-income students for the first day of school at Pearsall ISD! These donations help ensure that each student is all set for a great school year and that no child is left behind. On Saturday, June 29th, the Devine Chamber of Commerce held a golf tournament to raise money for the free summer activities that the Chamber sponsors for the community! Security State Bank was a hole sponsor for the event and even had an employee, Matt Martinez, VP at our Main Office, participate in the tournament and take first place! On Saturday, June 15th, SSB Vice President’s, Matt Martinez & Kellen Nixon, both represented Security State Bank at the Annual Dean Bates Memorial Golf Tournament. The Dean Bates Memorial is a Scholarship fund that has raised over $20,000.00 in scholarships for Devine Seniors! Security State Bank was a hole sponsor for this event and Matt Martinez and his teammates took 1st place at the tournament! Kellen Nixon, VP of our Devine Branch and pictured far left, participated in the Devine Lions Club golf tournament along with Charlie Baker & Willie Shelton, both members of the community. The tournament was held on June 8th at the Devine Municipal Golf Course and their team came home with 2nd place! SSB supports the Devine Lions Club because they are very active in the community and show lots of support to our local schools! The Lions Club is always helping where there is a need!
It is with a heavy heart that Security State Bank announces the passing of longtime employee and SSB Director, Buck B. Newsom. Buck was born on October 6, 1951 and passed away on June 8, 2019. He began his employment with SSB in 1978 in the Operations Department and worked his way up to being a Loan Officer. In 1994, Buck was added to SSB’s Board of Directors and later retired in December of 2017 as an Executive Vice-President. Buck was loved by his bank family as well as his customers and will be greatly missed by all that knew him.
Services will be held at 10am on June 13, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church located at 507 East San Antonio Street, Pearsall, TX. Funeral Arrangements are being made through Hurley’s Funeral Home in Pearsall, TX.
On Thursday, May 23rd, Carrie Schutze & Mary Mangold, both of the Castroville Branch, set up a table at Medina Valley High School’s Annual Career Fair and discussed various banking careers with their High School students! They had brochures on hand that contained background information about the banking industry and listed different jobs that are available. They also discussed different degrees that the students could pursue in order to find a job in banking! It was a fun afternoon and they got to visit with numerous students who were very interested in banking careers!
May 12th – 18th is National Police Week and to show their appreciation to the local police department, the Pleasanton Branch dropped off some goodies at the Police Station! May 15th is also recognized at Peace Officer Memorial Day so all of the Pleasanton Branch employees wore blue to show their respect for all fallen officers! These were just a few small ways that SSB used to show just how much Law Enforcement means to them!
